20 Questions for YG사장님

Don't get me wrong, I love YG Entertainment.  I will honestly listen to anything they put out.  Even that gawd-awful 나쁜 기집애 mess.  But they are not above criticism.  A lot of the things they do frustrate me to no end because (1) I don't see the point of doing such and such, (2) what ever that plan is, it doesn't make sense, (3) what they say contradicts something they've preached in the past.

We are nearing the end of 2013 and YG still has a LOT of things "planned" and with the speed, or lack thereof, of their promotions and releases, I don't think 3 months is enough time.  And clearly, he plays favorites.  You can tell me otherwise but you know it's true.

So here are the 20 things I want to ask, point out, and remind him about his very talented artists:
  1. This may be answered before and I'm just not paying attention but... who is the ??? in G-Dragon's song 결국 Can we add this to Jennie Kim's "featuring" album?  Aren't there other girls in this group?  Aren't they good enough for featuring stints?
  2. What happened to the full MV for Let's Talk About Love?  You don't tease us like that and then forget about it?  That teaser was so effective, it blew up the Internet for a second. It got people talking.  Plus, there's that GDYB featuring.  할말있어요 is a hot song but LTAL MV teaser is hotter.
  3. September is almost over.  CL was taking pictures with random celebrities. in NYC.  Dara was there somewhere also.  Minzy and Bom were... where are they?  And where is the September single from 2NE1?  What happened to "releasing one single per month until the October album release?"
  4. You have SIX MONTHS to debut 악동뮤지션, YG.  Six months.
  5. Is it possible that the new, non-Bubble Butt GD&TOP single on the new Big Bang album?  Ala- Big Bang Special Edition CD with Oh Yeah and High High?
  6. In that same vein, GD&TOP, Volume 2 anyone?  I mean, you don't name your album "Volume 1" without a promise of a subsequent offering.
  7. And also, how about that Jay Park + G-Dragon collaboration?  Was that even true?
  8. Can you just debut all of the WIN kids?  They don't have to be in the same groups as they are on the show.  Maybe pull an EXO or a One Day.  SM and JYP did it so why can't you?  (Or just have Seungri manage a sub-agency and debut the "losing" team, naming them... well, "Victory".)
  9. Speaking of Seungri, obviously he can write good songs too.  Why not let him write a song for Big Bang?  Sure, GD can help and TOP can write his own rap parts but I want to see Seungri's name as first billed in a Big Bang song.
  10. I've seen this happen twice.  Once for TOP and once for your kid, GD.  Define "too hip-hop".  When YG heard some of the material TOP was working on for his solo release, YG didn't like it because it was "too hip-hop".  And again, in GD's newest album, he also said some of the songs in consideration were "too hip-hop".  For an agency that defines itself as predominantly hip-hop, why this exception?
  11. The Jennie Kim - Bom Park parallel.  Jennie has taken over Bom's place as the go-to featuring artist at YG.  How long did it take for Bom to debut?  How many featurings did she do before that (5)?  How many will it take Jennie?
  12. Is Gummy still with YG?  Last I heard, her contract was expiring.  Updates, please.
  13. As for Se7en, will you welcome him back to your company again after he gets discharged?  You kinda need him to keep TOP happy lol.  I need my handsome Choi brothers back.  And yes, we can include Mithra Jin there also.  I want that photo to happen.
  14. Please kill all plans to have CL go solo.  She is not effective on her own.  I'm not saying this because I can't stand her, alone or otherwise.  She's fab when she's against the 3 other 2NE1 girls.  She outshines them.  But on her own, she disappears.  Her stage presence works when she's with other people.  It even works against GD.  I honestly can't even remember any of her 나쁜 기집애 solo stages because she gets buried in all those flags and shiny things.  GD walks the thin line between G-Dragon and Kwon Jiyong like a pro.  Between CL and Chaerin, I have a hard time believing either one.
  15. Let's talk about Kang Seung Yoon.  The kid can sing.  Very well.  If you don't know what to do with him (because you're a "hip-hop agency" and rock is out of your league), keep an open mind and see what he can do.  Don't force him into a box.  You spent two seconds on his promotion and went straight to this WIN thing.  While I'm liking WIN, I would've liked Kang Seung Yoon to have his own thing for a little longer before he disappears into a generic boy group.  He can do it, with the right support, which I know YG can provide.
  16. When are you going to have another YG Family Concert?  I know we're missing Se7en (and possibly Gummy, too.  My mom said she'll go with me if Se7en is there. She LOVED his version of Lonely with Seungri, Taeyang, and Daesung. I even told her that I'll buy her a Se7en lightstick lol) but at least we can have an Epik High party.  Can Epik Bang happen again?  Fan, please.
  17. During the ALIVE TOUR in California, G-Dragon did this awesome as fck "remix" of Crayon.  At MAMA2012, Big Bang did this bomb ass mashup of Crayon+Fantastic Baby called Monster in Me with TOP and his amazing rap verse.  Is it too much to ask for an official release of that?  Those were awesome.
  18. I love Psy.  But I really wish you kept the production in-house.  It's not that I don't have faith in the people he's with now but I fear that he's going to lose that thing that makes his music distinctly Psy.  I mean, do these American music bigwigs understand him?  His music?  Idk, man.  And please, keep GD out of their grasp.
  19. Epik High.  I know that YG사장님 is the JJ Abrams of K-pop... can't juggle more than one project at a time (and once he gets into a new thing, the previous unfinished project falls apart.... I still hate you for fcking up Alias, Abrams) but I'm just reminding you, sir.  Or at least add Tablo to your regular roster of songwriters and producers.
  20. If you're going to set up a US branch, please let it be in Los Angeles.  And can I work for you?  ㅋㅋㅋ...  I don't care if I'll be an elevator operator or greeter.  ;-)
So there's my list.  Do you have anything to add?  Being a YG Stan is frustrating as hell, I know.  But we love our YG artists no matter what.  Uhm... most of the time, anyway.  LOL!

내게 생일 선물!

I've been a Mac user for close to ten years.  I made the switch and never went back.  Using Windows computers is a necessary work hazard but I've been pretty faithful to Mac when it comes to my personal computer.  Although I prefer the Samsung S3 over the iPhone, nothing beats an Apple computer.

I've had my trusty Macbook White for almost seven years.  It began to show signs of wear a little over a year ago.  The OS was phased out and I could not use some newer apps because I need an OS update.  And if Safari itself bails on you, that means you need to do something with your OS.  But I didn't have enough memory to go from Tiger to Mountain Lion.  Yes, Tiger.  I had to find versions of some apps so they can work with the measly OSX 10.4.11.

Spotify was one of those apps that did NOT have a version that worked on 10.4.11.  I love Spotify.  LOVE. IT.  And it irked me that I have access to it at work but not at home where I needed it the most.  It almost made me want to opt for a cheaper Windows netbook just so I can download Spotify.  But no... I held out for another year until finally, I just gave in.

There came a point where I didn't even want to attempt using my old Macbook.  It was slow, it had no memory, and it was just old.  It was time for a change.

I admit that Spotify is one of the main reasons why I caved.  I wanted it so badly.  And also, the price.  Best Buy has the least expensive price point for Apple products right now.  Plus, it's my birthday month... since my NYC (and South Korea) trip is no longer happening, I want to do something special for my quarter life year.  Even if it meant crazy spending.

Gentleman!

I've been watching American Idol  on and off since the first season.  I can get pretty passionate about it.  I mean, I cried when Constantine Maroulis was voted off and I was furious when Adam Lambert didn't win.  But this one tops my proudest moment list.  K-Pop - Psy oppa - on the Idol stage.  I'm not even Korean and I'm proud!

Lately, I haven't been caring much about Idol.  I honestly think it should be cancelled already, you know... quit while you're somewhat ahead.  Ratings haven't been as good as they were.  I don't think they're raking in that many new fans, and the fans that they already have are not as loyal as they think.  (Not to mention the winner practically goes back to obscurity a few days after his/her win.)  Let's face it... it's a shortcut to stardom.  The real challenge is staying in the game.  Not all of them win at that.

But I digress.  Psy and K-Pop in general on an international stage (come on, almost everything that appears on American television is more "international" than anything else) makes me happy.  It doesn't matter who it is, as a fan, I feel a bit proud.  Not all people would get it, I'm very sure; some of the comments on the Psy-related pics Ryan Seacrest posted on Instagram shows that they are firmly seated to the left, if you know what I mean (some bordering on ignorant, really).  But I like it and a lot of other people enjoy it too.  And right now, there is no better and/or relevant ambassador for K-Pop than Psy.  (As much as I would want the world to latch on to other - less "satirical" - K-Pop artists, I'll take what I can.)

In his Harvard speech, Psy said, "I gotta be humble, I gotta be humble, I know I gotta be humble because this does not happen to everybody — especially for Asian artists."  And I think oppa's been handling this worldwide fame pretty well.  He didn't really ask for this.  When Gangnam Style went viral, nobody expected it to blow up like it did.  After all, viral videos rarely get beyond their 15 minutes of fame.  Gangnam Style currently has 1.6 billion views and counting.  Psy himself admits that matching that feat is near impossible so he took advantage of that and look at where he is now.

He has haters, big and small, but he takes them all with his adorable eye smile.  (At least on camera lol.)  He's been in the industry long enough to not let those affect him negatively.  This quote best describes it:
“I cannot say I’ve been the best, but I can say I've done my best for 13 years [as a musician]."
So yeah, I am a proud Psy fan.  Haters to the left.  But whenever you decide to try a slice of the Psy-pie, you're welcome to horse dance and hip shake your way over here to our K-Pop happy place.

(Wow, I only wanted to post the video on my blog and it turned out to be a full rant/opinion piece. LOL.)

March 10-17, YG Week

I wasn't lying when I said my phone cover is 싸이 오빠 doing the dance.  I got this little cutie and yes, I'm not ashamed to use it.  I still like listening to 강남 스타일.  Way better than that Harlem Shake thing, honestly.

This is like having a little friend with me all that time.  A pocket Psy-oppa!  Now if I can only find a BIGBANG one... ;-)  I like these rubbery cases more than the harder ones.  They're easier to locate in my bag and they make my phone easier to hold.  Although I remove this whenever I have to pull out my phone in Koreatown... ㅋㅋㅋ...

As I've mentioned before, I do have a job.  Money's money but my days are boring.  I don't have anyone to talk to so sometimes, I end up talking to myself in English, Tagalog, Spanish, and Korean.  If anyone was around to hear me, they might think I've lost it.

아이고... 나 심심해.  Ano na naman kaya yan?  Ah whatever.  *co-worker comes in to check something* Si, muy bien.  Gracias.  Me gusta soda, por favor. Gracias.  Okay. 진짜 피곤해요.
I would've added Japanese but everything gets muddled up in my head sometimes.  Ah polyglotism.

Since I don't get to stay home all day anymore, I don't have much time to study much anymore.  I've resorted to make notes and schedules in Hangul.  Even passing time practicing my writing like so...

For me to do that, I must've been so incredibly bored.  I even Instagrammed it.  XD  Yeah.  I mean, I like that my job is so light; it didn't have the pressures of my previous one but still, I miss the company of other people whom I can easily talk to.  The reason why I lasted long with that other job was the people.  The pay on this other job is way better so I guess that's one good thing about that.  I'll just take this to further build my Korean vocabulary so I can express myself a bit more and a lot better.

The highlight of my week is my Korean class.  With work and school, I pretty much lost my time to rest - weekends - but I'm not going to give up my 한국어 크래스.  재미있어요.   But yesterday, I met up with my VIP friends for some KBBQ at my favoritest place, Castle BBQ #2.  It's the perfect place to take them because of the K-Pop MVs they play all day.  And of course, they played a BIGBANG playlist while we were in the middle of our meal.  And 2NE1.  And GD&TOP.  Funny, when they played Baby, Good Night, all of us got "affected" somewhat.  Let's just say we were the loudest table during that song.  LOL.  I'm glad for the soju in front of me.

I mean, I dare you not to be affected by this.  TOP's fully clothed but it's hotter than any nude guy.  And the last part?  Shoot me, I'm a GD&TOP shipper.  ;-)

After food, we headed to Koreatown Galleria to burn more money.  LOL.  Gaaah, I just enjoy spending time with my VIP friends.  It's kinda cool that I met them at the BIGBANG concert and yet we kept in touch.  I don't know other people in my circle who like K-Pop and it's just so fun being with them; seeing how excited and how into it they are.

The Music Plaza at Koreatown Galleria is like my kryptonite.  Sure, I only care about YG artists but whenever I see a YG artist's album, I make grabby hands at it.  And mind you, I don't do CDs anymore but I love DVDs.  I prepare to say goodbye to at least $120 every time I go there.  아이고, thankful for my boring job, ei?  XD  Last time, my damage was three items.  This time, it wasn't so bad. ;-)

Fangirling is still an expensive hobby and when I'm older, I might laugh at my younger self.  But I love it.  No regrets.  The 2011 BIGBANG BIG SHOW is one of my favorites.  Plus it has Secret Big Bang.  The 2011 YG Family Concert LIVE CD, I already have the songs but really, you pay for the photo book.  I originally wanted to pick up the ALIVE Making Of... or something like that but it's in Region 3.  Until I find a surefire way to bypass the DVD region BS, I'll skip that for now.  Although I really really want that.  Same story with the YG Family Concert DVD.  Region 3.  But I guess that's a blessing in disguise.  If these are in no-region format, like the BIG SHOW is, I might end up broke.  Hahaha... in moderation, as with all vices, right?

Today is St. Patrick's Day.  I'm supposed to get my drink on but I already did that yesterday with 5 shots of soju.  Give me vodka or soju any day and we'll be best friends.

On a side note: I've taken the LA Metro trains/bus every single day since Monday, March 11.  I have a whole week of work next week so it looks like it's going to be a full 12 days straight.  Who knows, I may have plans on Saturday after school also.  ;)

Koreatown Outfit of the Day (20130316)

My Saturdays often end up having a Korean theme.  I start off my day at Korean language class and somehow, the rest of my day follows the same thread.  Today, it was a KBBQ dinner out with my VIP friends followed by a splurge at Koreatown.

I love the ulzzang style of dress.  I think I can get away with it.  Hehehe... I think it's cute.  And I've been loving sweaters, scarves, and boots.  Spring is almost here and I have an excuse to wear eye-catching colors and designs again.

Outfit:
  • owl shirt from Santee Alley
  • long tank top from Ross
  • black footed leggings from Sears
  • boots from Charlotte Russe
  • Betsy Johnson tote
  • scarf from David & Young
  • Marc Jacobs watch
I try to make the ulzzang makeup look work on me but I don't feel I'm good at it.  My eyes don't lend themselves to that particular style.  Oh well.  Bring on the corals then.

Face:
  • Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream No. 23
  • L'Oreal True Match powder in N3
  • ELF brow kit in Medium
  • NYC Big Bold mascara
  • Benefit Coralista
  • L'Oreal Infallible eyeshadow in Amber Rush
  • Etude House Dear My Blooming Lips-talk OR 202
  • ELF brown creme liner
I need to do something with my hair.  Really.  I haven't done anything to that apart from cut it.  Hahaha...

Have you tried non-permanent hair color?  Like those dyes that wash off after 30 shampoos?  I want to try those but I'm not sure about them yet.

Happy New Year!

I need this here.

Happy New Year and belated Happy Birthday, Psy-oppa!

Bring it, 2013!
