Teacher Recounts Experience with Rude Immigration Employee Who Told Her to ‘Shut Up’
By E.J. Carleon – March 28, 2014

MANILA, Philippines – A teacher has taken her experience  to social media over an alleged rude immigration employee who humiliated her and her husband in front of a number of people, including foreigners, while trying to ask questions and assistance pertaining to a travel document they were processing.
Roselle Carreon wrote an article recounting their ordeal and humiliation they suffered at the hands of an apparent ‘ego-tripping’ employee she identified as Carlo Salazar at the Bureau of Immigration, Makati Office.

I'm not surprised. I had a slightly similar experience with the Philippine Consulate here. When I went to renew my passport, I was in line like normal. Then when I got to the booth, bigla silang nag-lunch break nang walang pasabi. I was standing there for a good 10 minutes before someone said ALL of them were on break. It was around 2:30PM already. Or magsabi man lang na on break sila.  Bigla na lang nagsialisan.  When their break ended, nakasimangot pa yung guy who took my documents, as if ayaw nya akong tulungan. When I asked for a simple clarification, sarcastic pa sagot nya sa akin, staring at me as if hindi nya ako naintindihan.  (That mandatory absentee voting is BS btw.)

Same with the immigration booth at NAIA.  Todo smile sa Amerikano in front of me at the queue pero pagdating sa akin, inirapan ako sabay, "Taga-saan ka talaga?"  WTF.  Uh, it's right there.  On my passport.  And visa.  In front of you.  In your hands.  At talagang may kasama pang irap.  Lalaki si kuya ha.  Wala man lang "Mabuhay" or "Welcome back".  Nakakairita.  After 15 hours mong biyahe, ganun ang sasalubong sa iyo.

I don't know.  I hate thinking things but what else could be the reason.  Sila yung nagtatrabaho processing other Filipino's documents to go live and work outside the country pero sila itong hindi makaalis.  That's what I think... bitter-bitteran ang drama.

I love being Filipino, kahit ano pang reputasyon natin sa ibang lahi.

I feel so NAKED.

I forgot to do my brows and put on mascara today.  I feel so NAKED.  O____________O

My morning routine consists of your usual boring stuff: bathroom business, brush, mouthwash, splash cold water on face, etc.  Then as I'm getting dressed, I put on a random episode of The Rugrats.  By the time the episode ends, I should be out the door.  That's usually 30-45 minutes from the time I get out of bed.  (That's including the 10 minutes that I lounge around while checking Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and the weather.)

This morning, I dressed and did my face.  Then I realized that I had about 5 minutes to spare.  That was strange.  So I pulled my hair up to a high ponytail.  It's 2nd day hair and no amount of dry shampoo will make my hair look fresh.  I have the type of hair that has to be washed everyday but I can't since dyeing it red.  As I was walking to the train station, I happened to rub my eyes and then it hit me... I forgot MASCARA!

This is so #firstworldproblems of me.  I always have mascara on when I leave the house, even if it is just for getting groceries or going to the movies.  Looks like I was so out of it this morning that I totally overlooked those two steps that I do five-six days a week.  I had to compensate by doing something I seldom do, put on eyeliner.  Funny, because I have two pencil liners in my makeup bag.  The taupe one doesn't show up on my skin at all so it was perfect as a brow pencil.  I have a brown waterproof one for tight lining.  So it all worked out after all.  I might start bringing a cheap but good mascara along.

Gentleman!

I've been watching American Idol  on and off since the first season.  I can get pretty passionate about it.  I mean, I cried when Constantine Maroulis was voted off and I was furious when Adam Lambert didn't win.  But this one tops my proudest moment list.  K-Pop - Psy oppa - on the Idol stage.  I'm not even Korean and I'm proud!

Lately, I haven't been caring much about Idol.  I honestly think it should be cancelled already, you know... quit while you're somewhat ahead.  Ratings haven't been as good as they were.  I don't think they're raking in that many new fans, and the fans that they already have are not as loyal as they think.  (Not to mention the winner practically goes back to obscurity a few days after his/her win.)  Let's face it... it's a shortcut to stardom.  The real challenge is staying in the game.  Not all of them win at that.

But I digress.  Psy and K-Pop in general on an international stage (come on, almost everything that appears on American television is more "international" than anything else) makes me happy.  It doesn't matter who it is, as a fan, I feel a bit proud.  Not all people would get it, I'm very sure; some of the comments on the Psy-related pics Ryan Seacrest posted on Instagram shows that they are firmly seated to the left, if you know what I mean (some bordering on ignorant, really).  But I like it and a lot of other people enjoy it too.  And right now, there is no better and/or relevant ambassador for K-Pop than Psy.  (As much as I would want the world to latch on to other - less "satirical" - K-Pop artists, I'll take what I can.)

In his Harvard speech, Psy said, "I gotta be humble, I gotta be humble, I know I gotta be humble because this does not happen to everybody — especially for Asian artists."  And I think oppa's been handling this worldwide fame pretty well.  He didn't really ask for this.  When Gangnam Style went viral, nobody expected it to blow up like it did.  After all, viral videos rarely get beyond their 15 minutes of fame.  Gangnam Style currently has 1.6 billion views and counting.  Psy himself admits that matching that feat is near impossible so he took advantage of that and look at where he is now.

He has haters, big and small, but he takes them all with his adorable eye smile.  (At least on camera lol.)  He's been in the industry long enough to not let those affect him negatively.  This quote best describes it:
“I cannot say I’ve been the best, but I can say I've done my best for 13 years [as a musician]."
So yeah, I am a proud Psy fan.  Haters to the left.  But whenever you decide to try a slice of the Psy-pie, you're welcome to horse dance and hip shake your way over here to our K-Pop happy place.

(Wow, I only wanted to post the video on my blog and it turned out to be a full rant/opinion piece. LOL.)

SRSLY, CL. I GIVE UP.

What in the gods mighty names is this?!

I'm not the biggest CL fan (I'm kind of over her right now; there are 3 other girls in your group, girl... how about them?) nor am I a fan per se of Jeremy Scott but this... this is fcking awful.  If this is what people consider "high fashion", then I'm not getting the point.  I've seen a lot of haute couture and this is more like a hot mess.  I mean... LOOK AT IT!  I honestly wanted to throw up a little when I saw these pics the first time.  O___O  CL, what happened?

More horror under the cut.

Jack the Giant Slayer (2013)

Let me spoil you right now by asking...

WHERE WAS THE DAMN GOOSE?!

For those familiar with the original fairytales, Jack the Giant Killer and Jack in the Beanstalk, you'd know that the goose (and golden egg) had a rather big role in Jack's success.  In this movie, there was a golden egg but no goose.  I was waiting the whole movie for that bird but even the golden egg was just an afterthought, if at all.  DX

Anyway, I enjoyed the movie.  It was an adventure.  I don't think it's kid-appropriate though haha.  Stick with the fairytales, kids.  This shows gore, blood, and chopped off heads... all that good stuff.  ;-)  The visuals are amazing.  It definitely had that storybook look, that fantasy feel and I loved that.  The acting was a bit off but the visuals made it tolerable.  But I mean, what do you expect from a fantasy film, right?  It wasn't coming across as parody acting but it wasn't the best performance from any of these actors.

Ian McShane (King Brahmwell) is always a joy to watch.  I loved him in The Pillars of the Earth and he was great here too.  I love Ewan McGregor (Elmont) so we don't have to dwell much on him haha.  He looks so hot in any role.  It's always a surprise to see Stanley Tucci (Lord Roderick) in a movie.  You'll never know what side of him will be on screen.  Compare his characters in The Hunger Games, Captain America: The First Avenger, and in this movie.  Such a range!  Now, the leads are Nicholas Hoult (Jack) and Eleanor Tomlinson (Isabelle) were okay.  Nicholas Hoult was so distracting because he is so good-looking!  And he never got dirty after everything he went through.  Sort of like in King Kong where Naomi Watts rolled through dirt and mud and grass but she stayed white and clean.  Srsly?  Eleanor Tomlinson reminds me of Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark, Game of Thrones).  It doesn't take much acting to look (and portray) a princess so I can't say much about her.  She's pretty.  But I prefer Sansa a bit more.

(Speaking of Sansa, GAME OF THRONES... MARCH 31!)

The movie doesn't necessarily follow the source fairytales but you can definitely see familiar elements such as "Fi, fie, foe, fum" and the chopping down of the beanstalk. Jack does pick up a golden bejeweled egg but we don't see it again until the very end of the movie.  And once again, where was the goose?  I cannot get over that.

Overall, this is one of the better fairytale movies, at least for me.  Over the past months, we've had Hansel & Gretel, Red Riding Hood, and a couple of Snow Whites.  Apart from Hansel & Gretel, I didn't like any of those.  I enjoyed Jack the Giant Slayer.  If you loved the fairytale, you will like this one too.

... if you don't mind the goose all that much.  ;-)

Mali yun.  Malamang pakikinggan ko pero magustuhan?  Hindi kaagad-agad.  O baka hindi talaga.  Parang sinabi mo na "Ay mahilig kang magbasa? Ibig sabihin mahilig ka sa Twilight!"  Award ka naman, ate.  Hindi ganun eh.

Hindi ako nagmamatigas.  Sinusubukan ko naman eh.  Pinakinggan ko yung gusto nyong mga kanta.  May nagustuhan ako, merong hinde.
