Drugstore Ombre Lip

봄은 여기!  Spring is here!  Although a quick peek outside tells me otherwise.  And it's dead cold.

Anyway, I've been wanting to recreate the ombre lip for the longest time.  I either get the wrong color combination or the products I'm using end up not working well together.  I'm not fond of lip tints or stains.  I wanted to use products I already have - mostly just plain ole lipsticks - to make my own version of the ombre lip.

Over the weekend, I pooled some products and tested out different pairings.  And lo and behold, I think I found it!

Again with the fail lip swatch.  I took this photo earlier today at work and the lighting nothing to write home about.  But in person, it looks so soft and cute and ah... I'm happy with it!  Everything is drugstore and it costs less than $7.

Start off with a lipbalm of your choosing.  Then apply Wet'n'Wild Megalast lipstick in 901B Think Pink ($1.99) all over your lip.  The formula is a bit dry but it's a pretty nude pink and it's one of my favorites.  And then, apply Wet'n'Wild lipstick in 520E Hot Paris Pink ($0.99) to just the inside of your lip, where the two halves meet.  Add some more in the middle to intensify the pink.  Don't knock that dollar lipstick, it's pretty good.  Lastly, dab a bit of the NYC Kiss Gloss in 536 Murray Hill Melon ($2.99) all over to blend the colors together.  Don't swipe the tube across your lips.  The best method I suggest is dabbing it on the lips and/or following with a finger, also with a dabbing motion.

So there you go.  It lasts pretty long on the lips because the Megalast formula has pretty good staying power.  As the day goes on, the colors will blend together more and you'll be with a cute lip look as if you just sucked on a popsicle.

Koreatown Outfit of the Day (20130316)

My Saturdays often end up having a Korean theme.  I start off my day at Korean language class and somehow, the rest of my day follows the same thread.  Today, it was a KBBQ dinner out with my VIP friends followed by a splurge at Koreatown.

I love the ulzzang style of dress.  I think I can get away with it.  Hehehe... I think it's cute.  And I've been loving sweaters, scarves, and boots.  Spring is almost here and I have an excuse to wear eye-catching colors and designs again.

Outfit:
  • owl shirt from Santee Alley
  • long tank top from Ross
  • black footed leggings from Sears
  • boots from Charlotte Russe
  • Betsy Johnson tote
  • scarf from David & Young
  • Marc Jacobs watch
I try to make the ulzzang makeup look work on me but I don't feel I'm good at it.  My eyes don't lend themselves to that particular style.  Oh well.  Bring on the corals then.

Face:
  • Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream No. 23
  • L'Oreal True Match powder in N3
  • ELF brow kit in Medium
  • NYC Big Bold mascara
  • Benefit Coralista
  • L'Oreal Infallible eyeshadow in Amber Rush
  • Etude House Dear My Blooming Lips-talk OR 202
  • ELF brown creme liner
I need to do something with my hair.  Really.  I haven't done anything to that apart from cut it.  Hahaha...

Have you tried non-permanent hair color?  Like those dyes that wash off after 30 shampoos?  I want to try those but I'm not sure about them yet.

Review: Big Bold NYC reviews

My local CVS finally carries NYC, New York Color cosmetics.  Well, my local RiteAid does but they don't have the new products.  At least not yet.  I also found these new products at Sears.  But the products I'll be reviewing here are from CVS.

Okay, I lied.  I got that Big Bold mascara from RiteAid... ages ago!  (Note: I am aware of the shelf life of mascaras but whatevs.)  Based on glowing recommendations from Nouveau Cheap, I went and picked up NYC's Big Bold Mascara in Extra Black.  I was looking for new mascaras to try out.  I'm lucky that almost all the mascaras that I try work well.  The contest lies with the staying power.  So far, CoverGirl Last Blast takes the cake.  I like Maybelline mascaras also but they tend to leave me with black rings after a few hours.  I don't like Wet n Wild, ELF, and Revlon mascaras.  So I figured I would try one from NYC.  And they're way cheaper than other drugstore brands.  Was it any good?

And I thought the LashBlast (top) brush was big.  On the bottom is the Big Bold mascara brush.  It's HUGE!  My mom tried to use it but she has short lashes and this huge hunk of a plastic brush wasn't the easiest thing to use.  But with my longer lashes, it works like magic.  I used it in this Face of the Day but I deleted the raw photo of the picture on the right.  My other eye showed the full effect of this mascara on my uncurled (they're naturally curly, hey) lashes.  I didn't really plan to do a review on this mascara.  My original intention was to feature the new plumping glosses.  But since they sort of belong to the same collection, I decided to feature this as well.  Anyway, this is one of my favorite mascaras so expect to see this again in future Face of the Day posts.

Now, on to the new stuff!

Face(s) of the Day (20130216)

I had a long day yesterday.  ㅠ.ㅠ

My 한국어 클래스 was a bit different.  We had a Skype session with my classmate who was on a business trip.  It was fun doing it that way.  But nothing beats being there in person.  It was awesome of her to arrange something like that.  I really admire that dedication to learn.  It was our penultimate meeting for the Beginner A sessions and I've signed up for the Beginner B classes.  You're not shaking me off that easily, oh dear language.  ㅋㅋㅋ!

I wasn't having a good skin day yesterday though.  So when I got home, I immediately took off my makeup and I wanted to sleep.  But as I closed my eyes, my mom told me that we were going outlet shopping.  Like... right then and there!  Just when I took off my face for the day.  Aissshh....

The looks aren't that different.  I just changed the lip color.  On the right, I'm wearing Maybelline Vivids in Electric Orange.  On the right, Wet n Wild's Nouveau Pink.  Yes, the $0.99 one.  It's a bit washed out in the photo but in person, it's amazing.  I also got another color and it's also great.  Surely, not all shades in the dollar line are great.  A lot of them are frosty but these two that I got are blowing my socks off right now!  The oranges in the Vivids collection from Maybelline are awesome too.  It brightens up the face instantly and they make me happy.  LOL.

As for the rest of my face:
  • Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream in No. 23
  • L'Oreal True Match powder in N3
  • ELF baked blush in Rich Rose
  • WNW bronzer in Princess
  • WNW Silent Treatment trio
  • NYC Big Bold mascara
  • Physicians Formula black eyeliner for Nude Eyes
We then went to Camarillo Premium outlets and I got myself a few Spring sweaters.   I have a thing for sweaters.  Remember that cute panda sweater I was wearing some time ago?  Yeah, I got that from Papaya and yesterday, I got a cute little owl one.  Maybe you'll see it in an OOTD soon?  ^o^  Then I went to town at my favorite clothing store, Cotton On.  I stocked up on knit hats and ... notebooks.  What?  They were $1 to $3 with a 40% off on EVERYTHING.  I'll find use for them eventually.

Valentine's Day Outfit of the Day (20130214)

I don't know about you but I pretty much spend yesterday alone.  And no, I'm not bitter or anything like that.  I actually enjoyed my Hollywood day.  I went to Simon Baker's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, more on that in the coming posts, and just walked around the boulevard.  I didn't go to Universal Studios anymore because I got tired and it was hot and I was not dressed appropriately for that unexpected heat.  So I just went straight on home enjoying a Power-sized Razzmatazz from Jamba Juice.  And after that, I was KO'd.  Strange.
