LA >>>>>>>> MNL

"Home" being my lovely home country, the Philippines.

And I'm leaving tomorrow!  I'll be staying there for roughly a month.  It's my first time going back in 3-4 years.  I am really looking forward to it, to eating the food, seeing the places and familiar faces again, especially my family.

What I'm most excited about is the plane ride.  As you know, I love traveling and long journeys.  I can't sleep in transit so it'll be 15+ hours of either reading, watching a movie, or keeping track of our trip via GPS.  Yes, I'm a geek like that.  ^^,

Our stopover will be Japan.  \o/  I wish we could stay longer.  I would love to explore and an hour's stopover is not nearly enough to even breathe in the place.  And then, it'll be five more hours to Manila.  Aaaah, I'll be doing it GD-style... LA >>>>>>>>> MANILA!  XD

Speaking of GD, my Day 2 concert post will most probably posted when I'm in the Philippines.  I didn't take that many pictures of that night but that was TOP's birthday celebration.  I have to post something.  And oh, Seungri bb joined twitter: @ForvictoRi.

I'm trying to not get ahead of myself.  I'm excited to see my family again.  Friends too... the little that I do have.  I'm most excited to spend time with my brother.  We can watch The Hobbit together!  That's like... one of the most important things to me.

I already compiled a sort of to-do list while I'm there.  Dunno how successful it'll be but here goes:
  • Eat KFC chicken + rice.  I have not eaten KFC in two years.
  • Eat Chicken McDo.  Walang ganito sa States!
  • Rodics.  'Nuff said.
  • TAHO.
  • Walk around UP.
  • Honest to goodness malling.  That's the one thing that I crave the most since coming to the US.  The malls here are nothing compared to the ones in the Philippines.
  • Look for BIGBANG albums.
  • Eat at Tokyo Tokyo.
  • Visit National Bookstore.  And like before, buy nothing over PHP100.
I do have a couple of friends that I plan to meet.  I'm pretty excited to reconnect with those people in HS whom I did get along with and a couple that I became good friends with after HS.  I'd like to believe that we've grown up now and we're different than when we were in our teens.  I hope.

So that's that. The next time I post here, I'll be in Manila.  Or Tokyo.  ;-)

IT'S MORE FUN IN PHILIPPINE

I am in total spazzzzz mode right now.  I don't think I'm capable of posting a coherent post about this subject so bring out the bullets again!  And yes, the spelling of the Philippines in the header is intentional.  ;-)

  • Sandara brought BIGBANG to Tagaytay.  They canceled their press conference so that they can go there, chill, eat at Gerry's Grill, and just enjoy their day off.  They even had San Miguel beer.  G-Dragon posted that picture and then later deleted it.  Hmm, I wonder why... LOL.  Nevertheless, I'm so happy that they managed to take the day off and turn it into a vacation of sorts even if it is just a daytrip.  I remember when my friends and I would go to Tagaytay and just chill.  I wonder if they know about the Mushroom BurgerWala man ako sa Pilipinas, proud ako sobra na na-enjoy nila ang Pinas.
xxxibgdrgn Instagram (deleted pic lol)
  • BIGBANG GALAXY ALIVE TOUR 2012, Philippine leg.  Grabe.  It's more fun in the Philippines talaga.  The Singapore crowd used to be my benchmark of audiences.  Plus, they have the best video.  They still have the best video but the Filipino crowd OWNED.  Ibang levels ang sigawan.  As in wala ka nang naririnig na kumakanta halosLalo na kay TOP.  I watch the "Fantastic Baby" performance from every city and deymmm.... grabe lang talaga yung sa Pinas.  Pati yung ~whoo-hoo~ sabay-sabay pa.  The LA crowd has quite a competition.  Aliw din yung mga ANG GWAPO!!!  OMG!!! na sigawanMay natira pa kayang alive sa audience dun?  HEHEHEHE...

  • LOL watching the #MABUHAYBIGBANG hashtag on Twitter almost made me late for work.  For real  People were like, literally stalking or at the very least, watching the guys - Taeyang, Jiyong, and Daesung - swimming at EDSA Shangri-la.  Oh lol, I can say that I swam in the same pool.  And will again because my mom and I will be staying at the same hotel when we go back to the Philippines.  ^.^  Hehehe, yeah I'm that shallow.  It's the little things in life, right?  And there's the concert business.  So yeah, I was waiting for updates and pictures of the boys that I didn't notice that it was time to go.

  • What else?  Oh!  Yeah, my mom is now a fan of Fantastic Baby.   I left the reins with her when I left for work and then while I was on the train, the Manila show was going on.  She updated me as juicy stuff happened.  When I got home, she blurted out, "Ang ganda ng MV ng Fantastic Baby!"  Hahaha, who are you and what did you do to my mom?  I should be used to this by now - by her liking the stuff that I like - but this... ah lol, I am impressed.
  • LOL, Sandara did teach the boys "mahal ko kayo".  I expected Seungri to take it and run with it but a different Seunghyun caught on... TOP.  XD  I love it.  I just love it!  I can see myself watching all the Manila show fancams until it's my time to make my own fancam footage.
How I wish I were a part of that crowd.  But then again, if I were there, I might not be able to go.  Sigh.  At least I'm here and I'm going twice.  I'm already watching fancams closely, planning where to stand at VIP.  I think I found the perfect spot.  And there's the matter of getting there.  First come first serve... and for shorter people like me, that can be difficult.

But nevertheless... I'm proud that the boys enjoyed the Philippines and her people.  I can't wait to go back even if it's just for a visit.

SANDARA PARK BACK IN THE PHILIPPINES

Sandara, ang pambansang krung-krung ng Pilipinas, is back in the Philippines.  BIGBANG is also in the Philippines for their Galaxy ALIVE tour.

That, my friends, is all you need to know.

But honestly... this is what I really want to say --

TAENA. NASA PILIPINAS DIN SI SANDARA KASAMA ANG BIGBANG! SHET. EPIC. JUST FCKING EPIC. YG FOREVER!!! ♥

*hinga... hinga*

Haysss... brighter side of things, right?
Pero shet.  Epic talaga.  Kahit audience lang si Sandy sa concert, the fact na umuwi talaga siya.  (Yes, I consider her Pinay na rin.  More than ten years ka ba naman dun.  Mas magaling pa siyang mag-Tagalog kesa sa mga Pinoy dito sa States.  Mahiya kayo lol.)  Imagine, pwede kayang isingit nina GD&TOP yung Oh Yeah tapos ka-duet nila si Sandy?  Doable.  LOL.

Thank you, Papa YG!  Grabe, sobrang gratitude talaga.  Second Anaheim show tapos ito?  Wow lang talaga.  <3  Excitement x 100 for my VIP friends back home. Pag-igihan nyo ang fancams at pictures ha!

BIGBANG in the Philippines

This is happening, people!  As we speak, this is happening.

I'm not even in the Philippines right now and I'm still fcking excited!  I'm excited for my VIP friends back home.  OMG... I can't even right now...  It's less than two weeks for my turn but still!

I wonder what Sandara taught these boys.

If you don't know, 2NE1's Dara practically grew up in the Philippines and speaks Tagalog fluently.  It's a total disconnect seeing a Korean speak straight Tagalog but I love it.  I love every bit of it.  I knew her before I knew of KPOP so there's my hipster moment.

Also, I'm so glad to see TOP in an instagram.  Hehehe... oh you and your kitty sweater.  Ang saya sana kung pati si Sandy kasama pero sabi nya may "schedule" daw sya eh.  Ang kulit siguro nun noh.  May translator sila bigla.  XD

Tangina... na-eexcite na talaga ako sobra!  Award lang talaga sobra!

Welcome to the Philippines, BIGBANG.  Sana wag silang ma-shock sa init.  Hahaha!

Superhero Shirt Fridays!

Fridays are marginally better at work.  We get to leave earlier than 5:30PM most days.  It's the weekend so there's an extra incentive to work faster.  And there's this thing that I think only two of us are doing... Superhero Shirt Fridays!  There's this cool guy at work and we kind of got to talking about The Avengers and other comic book heroes as well as other nerd stuff such as The Lord of the Rings and such.

"But... but... you're a girl."  Yeah, I get that a lot.  And I bask in it!  XD

So yeah, he said that every Friday is superhero shirt day.  And it just became a thing.  I think I have 3-4 superhero shirts and a few more random character shirts.  I reserve those for Fridays.  Before this "tradition", I usually am a bit dressier on Fridays because my co-workers and I might go out for dinner after work.  But I can work character shirts lol.

Also at work... sigh.

It is kind of distressing to realize that my boss might not know how to alphabetize.  Yeah, something as simple as that.  I know he can't construct a sentence, let alone a letter worth a damn.  Can't spell all that well either.  How can a letter be "professional" when the author does not know that a spell checker exists?  I mean... *kanyeshrug*

But as awful as some people at work are, they at least helped me pay for stuff.  As overworked and underpaid and mistreated as we are, my meager salary saved up since January bought me my BIGBANG concert tickets - plural - and... *drumroll*

PLANE TICKETS TO THE PHILIPPINES!

Yes, people.  I'm going home!  Well, at least for a little over three weeks.  I also paid for my mom's ticket but she said she's going to pay me back.  No problem.  That's why people work, right?  To have money to spend. We'll be there from the third week of November until just before my mom's birthday in December.  And I told my mom that I'm all hers after November 3rd.. assuming I was still sane.  ;-)

I still have no idea how to break the news to my boss(es).  How can I convince them that I'll definitely come back?  Well, I'm juggling options but right now, I'm safely on the "I'm coming back" side of the fence.  At this day and age, it's tough to find work.  It feels better to know that I have something to come back to.  Not to mention I like my co-workers.  At the state my bosses are at right now, it's tough to talk sense with them.  They don't trust anybody.  They don't believe people that are not "like them".  Basically, they screw everyone.  I plan to mull over it... give them a month before I fly out.

My bank account is absolutely weeping but my heart is happily crying tears of joy.  I'm waiting for the guilt to take me over the almost $600 I spent for BIGBANG tickets alone (not counting the concert paraphernalia and outfit planning coming up) but it never came.  And I don't think it'll ever come.  One time big time for 2012!  And it's been 3-4 years since the last time I was in the Philippines.  I miss it.  I miss my cousins.  I miss what few friends I had.  I miss my beautiful University (of the Philippines - Diliman).  But most of all, I miss... Chicken McDo.

Looks like I'm going to starve myself until November comes.  Activate "no buy" mode right the hell now!  But no, November cannot come any faster.   No matter how hard I try not to watch BIGBANG Alive Tour fancams from different cities, I get sucked in by their amazing-ness.  I cannot wait to see it for myself.

NOVEMBER, please come now!

August 2012 Favorites

Another month came and went.  Welcome, -ber months.  And Merry Christmas, everyone!  (If you know why, you're probably Filipino.)

1. The Kills - Future Stars Slow
Last month, Political Animals introduced me to such a bad ass song.  At first, I didn't know what their opening theme song was but I dug it hard.  My ever helpful friends lent a hand and led me to this song.  And this band.

2. Starbucks Caramel Frappuccino Lite
TONI
This drink has unseated green tea frappuccino as my favorite drink from Starbucks.  It's amazing.  And when I get to the caramel strings... aaaah, heaven!   I always get the venti.  It's not an everyday thing.  Once or twice a week, maybe three.  Massive love!  Some branches put caramel in with the blend and some just put it on top.  One Starbucks I went to put caramel at the bottom of the cup.  That was some kind of perfection.

3. Pasta da Vinci from The Cheesecake Factory
This is the only thing I order from The Cheesecake Factory.  I don't exactly know what's in it; all I know is that it is so good.  I never get tired of it.  And I always take some home for tomorrow's lunch or something.  If you haven't tried it yet, do it.

4. Golden Broccoli Cheese Soup from Subway
Yes.  Soup from Subway.  (I swear, this is the last food entry lol.)  It's less than $3 and it is so filling.  I loved it from first sip.

5. f(x)
I actually started liking f(x) midway through July.  I admit, for the first week of August, their songs kicked off my day.  But unlike with 2NE1, I only liked a handful of their songs.  I love NU ABO and Danger.  My original favorites were Electric Shock and Hot Summer.  As I explored their music, I came to like Beautiful Stranger and ... Is it Ok?  But their other songs?  No, thank you.  Most of their music reflects the qualities that I don't like about K-Pop.  Overly manufactured, cheesy as hell, cutesy-tootsie... I'm not buying that.  But I still really like the f(x) songs that I mentioned.

6. Barnes and Noble
Especially their location in Glendale Galleria.  It is one of my favorite places to chill.

7. Pandora on the iPad
I've used that app quite a lot this month.  I'm not much for Internet radio because I want to control the music/songs I listen to but lately, Pandora has introduced me to great new music.  In the bath, while reading... anytime!

8. The high ponytail
As you know, I have long hair.  It's down to my waist.  And it has been a very hot summer.  When I was a kid, I always wore my hair in a ponytail.  The higher, the better.  I seem to have revisited that during the hotter days.  And I feel pretty when I have my hair up like that.

9. Nude Lips
I'm still a nude lips newbie.  I'm liking it on me, both the pink nudes and the natural look.  My perfect combination is WNW Bare it All lipstick and NYC Nude York City liquid lipshine on top.  I would love to play around with this look more as the seasons change.

10. Girl Scout Cookies Lip Balm from Lip Smackers
I love the way they smell.  I have the party pack as well as the 3-pack on sale from Target.  I gave the thin mints to my mom because, even though Thin Mints is my favorite Girl Scout cookie, the lip balm is not.  My personal favorite from the balms is the trefoils.  Damn, it smells like the real thing.  The Coconut Caramel Stripes one is pretty awesome too.

Notice the lack of Big Bang in this list.  Considering they're pretty much the only thing coming out of my mouth lately, why aren't these very fine boys in this list?

Well, they're an obsession.  Calling them a Favorite doesn't cut it.  I feel they deserve their own post (even though there already is one haha).  But to be fair...

11. Alive - fifth mini album by Big Bang
Perfection all around.  Hats off to G-Dragon, T.O.P., Taeyang, Daesung, Seungri, Teddy Park, and everybody else involved with this masterpiece.   I lose myself while listening to this EP.  I love all the songs; even the one that I consider as filler, Ain't No Fun.  G-Dragon's first line in Alive (Intro) is perfect to kick things off and is just so fierce.  Daesung's solo Wings is so inspiring.  (Yes, I don't understand the song when I listen to it but when I read up on it, not to mention how GD explained the back story... I was sold!)  But the prizefighter in this EP is my new favorite song of all-time... FANTASTIC BABY.  Deym, TOP's verse in this song does things to me.

So I guess that's it.  I might even do a proper review for Alive, who knows?  ;-)
