August 2012 Favorites

Another month came and went.  Welcome, -ber months.  And Merry Christmas, everyone!  (If you know why, you're probably Filipino.)

1. The Kills - Future Stars Slow
Last month, Political Animals introduced me to such a bad ass song.  At first, I didn't know what their opening theme song was but I dug it hard.  My ever helpful friends lent a hand and led me to this song.  And this band.

2. Starbucks Caramel Frappuccino Lite
TONI
This drink has unseated green tea frappuccino as my favorite drink from Starbucks.  It's amazing.  And when I get to the caramel strings... aaaah, heaven!   I always get the venti.  It's not an everyday thing.  Once or twice a week, maybe three.  Massive love!  Some branches put caramel in with the blend and some just put it on top.  One Starbucks I went to put caramel at the bottom of the cup.  That was some kind of perfection.

3. Pasta da Vinci from The Cheesecake Factory
This is the only thing I order from The Cheesecake Factory.  I don't exactly know what's in it; all I know is that it is so good.  I never get tired of it.  And I always take some home for tomorrow's lunch or something.  If you haven't tried it yet, do it.

4. Golden Broccoli Cheese Soup from Subway
Yes.  Soup from Subway.  (I swear, this is the last food entry lol.)  It's less than $3 and it is so filling.  I loved it from first sip.

5. f(x)
I actually started liking f(x) midway through July.  I admit, for the first week of August, their songs kicked off my day.  But unlike with 2NE1, I only liked a handful of their songs.  I love NU ABO and Danger.  My original favorites were Electric Shock and Hot Summer.  As I explored their music, I came to like Beautiful Stranger and ... Is it Ok?  But their other songs?  No, thank you.  Most of their music reflects the qualities that I don't like about K-Pop.  Overly manufactured, cheesy as hell, cutesy-tootsie... I'm not buying that.  But I still really like the f(x) songs that I mentioned.

6. Barnes and Noble
Especially their location in Glendale Galleria.  It is one of my favorite places to chill.

7. Pandora on the iPad
I've used that app quite a lot this month.  I'm not much for Internet radio because I want to control the music/songs I listen to but lately, Pandora has introduced me to great new music.  In the bath, while reading... anytime!

8. The high ponytail
As you know, I have long hair.  It's down to my waist.  And it has been a very hot summer.  When I was a kid, I always wore my hair in a ponytail.  The higher, the better.  I seem to have revisited that during the hotter days.  And I feel pretty when I have my hair up like that.

9. Nude Lips
I'm still a nude lips newbie.  I'm liking it on me, both the pink nudes and the natural look.  My perfect combination is WNW Bare it All lipstick and NYC Nude York City liquid lipshine on top.  I would love to play around with this look more as the seasons change.

10. Girl Scout Cookies Lip Balm from Lip Smackers
I love the way they smell.  I have the party pack as well as the 3-pack on sale from Target.  I gave the thin mints to my mom because, even though Thin Mints is my favorite Girl Scout cookie, the lip balm is not.  My personal favorite from the balms is the trefoils.  Damn, it smells like the real thing.  The Coconut Caramel Stripes one is pretty awesome too.

Notice the lack of Big Bang in this list.  Considering they're pretty much the only thing coming out of my mouth lately, why aren't these very fine boys in this list?

Well, they're an obsession.  Calling them a Favorite doesn't cut it.  I feel they deserve their own post (even though there already is one haha).  But to be fair...

11. Alive - fifth mini album by Big Bang
Perfection all around.  Hats off to G-Dragon, T.O.P., Taeyang, Daesung, Seungri, Teddy Park, and everybody else involved with this masterpiece.   I lose myself while listening to this EP.  I love all the songs; even the one that I consider as filler, Ain't No Fun.  G-Dragon's first line in Alive (Intro) is perfect to kick things off and is just so fierce.  Daesung's solo Wings is so inspiring.  (Yes, I don't understand the song when I listen to it but when I read up on it, not to mention how GD explained the back story... I was sold!)  But the prizefighter in this EP is my new favorite song of all-time... FANTASTIC BABY.  Deym, TOP's verse in this song does things to me.

So I guess that's it.  I might even do a proper review for Alive, who knows?  ;-)

This is a "Political Animals" season finale post.

I will miss this show. This was good drama on TV when there is just so much crap going around. Great casting also. It was a good way to end things; all loose ends tied up but still leaves an opening for a second season. If this is it, I’m fine with how things went. But I won’t say no to season 2… ;-)

But wait...

Please... more, please.

Of course, this could be because of the East Coast/West Coast airing but a girl can dream.  And it would also mean more Sebastian Stan on my TV every week!  But honestly, this is a good show.

Aw, TJ. :'|

Y u so purrfekt?
This Sebastian Stan obsession.  "Phases" don't exist with me.  If I liked you even once, you stay with me forever.  Well, not counting those I liked in passing.  I genuinely like Sebastian Stan... he's nice to look at and he can act.  Plus play piano in his underwear.  ;-)  Thank you, Political Animals.

The latest episode was TJ-centric.  Not the best use of flashback this time but damn, I was teary-eyed towards the end.  It also reminded me why I decided to leave the field of Mass Communications.  I just felt so bad for TJ.  I think I always did, from the first episode, but moreso now.  I am anxious to know what happens next.

July 2012 Favorites

If you watch Youtube, you would know that this kind of list is popular among the beauty community and other special interest groups.  I'm too chicken to do a video about my monthly favorites so here goes my list.

1. 2NE1
By far my favorite female Asian group.  I've expressed my admiration for this quartet in the past and they still continue to impress me.  I have listened to more K-Pop groups since then but I keep on coming back to their songs, their videos, and their live performances.  And they have proved that they are not just a techno-dance pop group.  Check out their unplugged, one-take version of UGLY.

Those CK sunglasses are a fave too!
2. Everything A GAME OF THRONES - book, TV, audio book, graphic novel
I've put off reading/starting with this book/series because if I end up liking it, I might get sucked in.  And I'm right.  I finished the first two books inside of 3 weeks.  On impulse, I bought the book.  I started watching the show because of Sean Bean.  I've been audio booking while at work.  I find myself randomly quoting either the book or TV show.  I mean, Hodor!  I even got my co-workers into the show.  The books are so creative, the TV show is incredible -- definitely the best acting by an ensemble in the longest time.  I'm currently reading the 3rd book and I cannot wait for the 3rd season.  Also, I am currently obsessed with Arya/Gendry.

3. Razzmatazz from Jamba Juice
I've tried everything on Jamba Juice's permanent menu.  This is pretty much the one thing I don't mind ordering over and over again.  Sure, there are other good stuff on there but Razzmatazz is the one I remember the most up to the point of actually craving it.  I take mine with an energy boost.

4. EYESLIPSFACE (E.L.F. COSMETICS)
I cannot stop browsing their site!  I kind of want all of their stuff.  ^^,  They're products start at $1 and with promos like free shipping and free stuff, there is no better deal out there.  I've placed big orders before and I'm waiting for another one right now.

5. The Katniss Braid
This has been my go-to hairstyle for most of July.  I cannot believe how easy it is to do.  I did start off watching tutorials (everyone and their mother has a video on this) but I eventually figured it out of my own.

6. Surivival Run with Bear Grylls
It's like Temple Run but with Bear Grylls.  I can't stop playing it!  Temple Run's great too but I've discovered this one and can't seem to quit.

7. Subway Surfing
Another one of those Temple Run-like games on the iPad.  But instead of tilting your tablet, you just change lanes by swiping at the pad.  Also very fun.

8. Starbucks Green Tea Frappuccino
I call this my all-time favorite.  I might change a current favorite but I will always come back to my beloved green tea frappuccino.  If I'm early getting to work, I kill off some minutes to get in line for my morning green pick-me-up.

9. Starbucks Sausage and Cheddar sandwich
Add catsup and pair with any cold drink and there's my hearty breakfast.  I used to like the sausage sandwich at McDonald's but that sandwich here isn't as good as the one in the Philippines for some reason.

10. Political Animals
I have a feeling that Sebastian Stan is to blame for this.  ;)  It's been a while since I started watching new shows.  Watching TV shows as they air, even rarer.  It's not the best show but I've been enjoying it.

11. My Mickey Mouse watch
Think Robert Langdon's watch.  Yeah.  I'm not much of a Mickey fan but I thought with Mickey's hands acting as the watch's hands, it looked pretty cool and geeky at the same time.  I got it for $25 at Sears.

Should I do a favorite cosmetic products post?  Maybe.  I change my stuff, especially lip products almost everyday so it'll be harder to put up a favorite from that lot.

Kisses,

This is another Political Animals post.

TJ Hammond, ladies and gentle-people.

I liked tonight's episode more than last week's.  And this show does flashback scenes right.  It has quite a lot but unlike some where it is gratuitous, this needs them to give a scene more impact.  Why is Doug like that with his father?  Where does TJ fit in?  It adds to the dynamic between characters.  It might not be always well-written but it is well-acted.  Very much so.

And if we get Sebastian Stan like that every week, I don't care if it is Twilight level bad, I'm watching it.

Kisses,

This is a Political Animals post.

Sebastian Stan and Ellen Burstyn

This is a gorgeous show.

The Pilot was a bit awkward but the first episode of every show is almost always the worst.  Although this show's pilot left me so interested, I decided to actually watch the next one live.  No catching up this time.

I cannot get enough to Sebastian Stan playing the piano.  (Does he really play?  I mean, his mom is a pianist but who knows...)  Also, can we have him speak in a foreign language?  Please?  ^^,

Kisses,
