When was this again? Oh... November 12, 2015. And what date is it now? The 30th. Great.

Hey, I'm doing this mostly for myself. And for you guys too, I guess. Sharing is caring. This blog is kind of like my Pensieve. If you don't know what that is, gtfo of this particular post. I'm joking. Look it up and you'll know why that reference is appropriate.

Where was I? Ah Pensieve, right. Something special always happens to me when I go to events. I know each attendee has his/her own special moment. To them, that totally makes their day, week, month, year. I certainly have more than my fair share of that. I go to so many of these things and I don't want to forget those little moments. Not that I forget them, lol... my memory's pretty good when it comes to trivial things like that. ;-) It makes for good blog content, that's another thing.

KCON LA 2015, DAY 2

In my KCON ticket post, I might have said that it only took one reason to tip me over the edge. I decided to just fck it and attend this year's KCON because Ki Hong Lee of The Maze Runner movies was invited. Along with Daniel Henney and Kim Soohyun, the actor lineup actually was the reason why I decided to go. And hey, I might as well go to the concert. At least I can say that I saw Super Junior live. (Psst, Mr. Simple is my forever guilty pleasure.)


I'm no stranger to lining up and waiting. I've waited 8+ hours just to see actors. I was interested in two panels from the Day 2 schedule, one of them was Ki Hong Lee's panel. The other one was the Hallyu Culture Shock Q&A hosted by KWOW's Professor Oh. In past conventions, people have started to line up hours before a panel. I knew that Ki Hong Lee's panel is going to be a big one so I timed my schedule around that.


I got to LACC early to have lunch from one of the food trucks. I love Bibigo and since there wasn't a The Return of Superman representation, I had bulgogi 비빔밥 and 식혜. My bbs 대한, 민국, 만세 love 고기 and 밥, and in a recent episode, 민국이 cried over spilled 식혜. Yep, I'm overthinking things. At least, my ringtone is the triplets' theme song. (No joke!)

After a quick lunch, I went straight to the assigned room. I was one of the first 10 people in line. Kudos to those who had the same idea as me. XD A Soompi panel was still going on. The staff lady kept saying "Sohm-pi" instead of "Soom-pi", I thought she was saying zombie panel that first time. Anyway, I did some reading while I was waiting. The line started to get longer and longer until, the last I heard before going in, that it was almost all the way across the building. Yes, he might not be as huge as the other K-pop acts but he's got Hollywood creds. And I'm sure a lot of those who wanted to see him were The Maze Runner fans.


I definitely am a fan of that series. I met James Dashner when he was doing promos for the first movie. The 2nd movie, The Scorch Trials, will come out September 18th, a day after my birthday. And I told him that! Oh you know me, I won't pass up a chance to talk to a famous person. ;-)

WonderCon Anaheim 2015 - Volunteering!


It's the most WonderCon time of the year. Look who's bitten by the con bug.

And my passes were free! I signed up to volunteer. When you volunteer, you badge for that day is free. I went Saturday and Sunday. Three hours each day of "work" and then you have the rest of the day free. That worked out well for me for this particular con because I only really wanted to listen to one panel - The Hobbit one, hosted by TORn - and I wasn't looking to buy stuff in particular. Volunteering did cut my walking around time significantly but I still enjoyed myself.


WonderCon is like a sister convention to SDCC. It has less of the TV/film pop culture stuff and an overwhelming amount of comics. These artists are so frickin' talented. I wish I were that kind of fan that puts pictures up on my walls or the one who collects artwork in general. Then I would've burned through my budget faster than I did. I actually did pretty well at this con. I only bought a Dancing Baby Groot Funko Pop doll and a Persona 4 art book for my brother. I also have an official WonderCon poster that I got from volunteering and a Dead Rising poster signed by Zach Lipovsky, Jesse Metcalfe, and Dennis Haysbert. Yes, John Tucker and the Allstate guy.



Volunteering is really interesting. I mean, you volunteer for three hours and in exchange, you get to attend the convention for free. If the news that WonderCon is moving to the LA Convention Center next year, then all I have to fork up is train fare and food on top of whatever merch that I'd be interested in. According to the staff, they're in constant need of volunteers. A big convention like that with limited number of paid staff? Yeah, I got some interesting assignments in those six collective hours.

Outlander at Paleyfest [20150312]




The second half of the first season of Outlander premieres today in New York City but lemme tell ya, I already saw the next episode. And it was worth the #Droughtlander.

How, you ask? Give thanks to Paleyfest. Outlander was included in this season's LA panels. Wow, my last Paleyfest attendance was YEARS ago when Castle was still very new. FIVE. YEARS. AGO.

 I already met Diana Gabaldon at a book signing events and I was just so excited for the TV series. I missed them at SDCC and those other panels and appearances but I knew that it was only a matter of time before I ran across this beautiful cast. Yes, the actual premiere is in NYC but Paleyfest LA got first dibs. The Paleyfest was held at the Dolby Theatre this year, the place where they hold the Academy Awards.

But before that, there was another thing going on at Hollywood Boulevard that day. US President Barack Obama was in town for the Jimmy Kimmel show.


A LOT of Asian tourists were there, sitting on the sidewalk with their cameras ready. I fit right in even though I'm not a tourist lol. Apparently, POTUS already was out of the building by the time I got there and they were just waiting for the streets to clear so they can move out. Eh... maybe it's just a diversion, who knows. But I had more important things to think about, yeah? ;-)

The event was livestreamed via Yahoo! and there might be an archive of it floating around. It was understandably a rather subdued panel. It's not as wild as I remembered with Castle or any of the other similar panels I've been to. Mainly because the audience demographic for this show and book series is in the more mature female side of the scale. That's fine too. There won't be much catcalling or rowdiness. And there wasn't a lot of things the can potentially cause secondhand embarrassment. People were respectful; a lot of them were first time Paleyfest attendees and like I said, the older crowd.

If you've seen the first episodes of Outlander, you'd know that it has its share of sex and gore. I mean, c'mon... it's Starz. I happen to be the lucky one to sit beside someone who is obviously VERY uncomfortable with those kinds of scenes. The lady kept on covering her eyes, sighing, scoffing, and commenting that she "cannot watch this... thing!" I was laughing inside. Well, maybe she's a fan of the BOOKS but not really of the SHOW. I understand that. *shrugs*

It was a fun panel, prudes and low key-ness aside. I love that Kristin dos Santos seems like a genuine fan of the show and was as excited as the audience. She had games, drinking, very interesting questions, more drinking. The cast, as well as Ron D. Moore and Diana Gabaldon made the most out of it; they made the panel fun and interesting.

A Dream Comes True. Meeting Viggo Mortensen.


I've been a bad blogger lately. On this blog, anyway. I've been to a handful of events these past THREE months but not a peep. I have awesome pictures too.

But I've come out of that hole to share one of the more important days of my fangirling life. If you've known me for any length of time, you would know that I LOVE The Lord of the Rings. Books, movies... everything. The movies were the first 'verse that I actively participated in and was my first serious collection. I followed most, if not all, the actors and talents that were involved in the whole adventure and never regretted one bit.

Back when I lived in the Philippines, meeting these people seemed like a dream. I would ~dream about meeting them and that's about it. All of that changed in the past few years. I met/saw in person the cast and crew, some one by one... and just December of 2013 and 2014, a lot of them in one go. When I met Orlando Bloom at his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, it felt awesome. My life felt awesome lol. It only really left one more man to complete my life. Viggo Mortensen.

I looked back in some of my posts and I found this:
When asked the question, "Who is that one celebrity that will make you lose your shit?" I have two answers: Viggo Mortensen and Orlando Bloom.  And yes, you can blame Lord of the Rings.  That movie trilogy made such an impact on me that more than ten years later, I still love it as if I've just seen it for the first time.  
And I've said it time and time again... if I were to meet Viggo, I'd die. Obviously, that didn't happen but on that moment when I first saw him in the flesh, my hands started shaking so bad. I thought that my heart was going to leap out of my chest. I had my brother there to ground me. Having him there made it so special because he has been on this LOTR journey with me since day one. And oh, my mom saw him too. Not in the theater but at the curb near the cinema as she picked us up. ;-)


Guys, this was huge. I mean... I've missed the opportunity to meet him three times in the past. I pretty much gave up on it when he sort of shied away from the whole Hollywood thing and... when he said some things about LOTR. I thought the Dennis Hopper Walk of Fame ceremony was my best chance and it just wasn't in the cards. I've been a fan since G.I. Jane... almost 20 years in the making.

The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies (2014)



AKA The End of an Age.

Frodo Baggins once said, "I'm glad to be with you, Samwise Gamgee, here at the end of all things." Well, Samwise Gamgee wasn't even born yet during the events of The Hobbit. What I'm saying is that I'm glad to be on this journey since it's first steps out the door where it began. (See what I did there?) And of course, all the friends I met along the way. It's like an actual fellowship, you know. Fans of either the book and/or movie will understand the thrill of meeting another person who understands and who is as passionate as you are over something. LOTR is not for everyone (but I try to make everyone watch it anyway) and that feeling of finding someone to talk to about Thranduil, Legolas, Thorin, etc... is just priceless. 

 Now, will this be a review? Eh, like I said... I have a hard time reviewing things that I love so no, definitely not a biased review. A recap maybe? Well, I don't think you'd want to read a full on fangirling complete with Tolkien jargon and mythology. A send off? Absolutely not. It may be hashtagged #OneLastTime but it's never really "the last time" with this fandom.
